CHURCH & SANCTUARY ETIQUETTE
PROCEDURES FOR MAKING APPOINTMENTS:  Any member or person desiring to see the Pastor and ministerial staff or who requests an appointment must schedule such appointments with the church Office Manager, Sis. Adrienne Taylor.  No one should go to the Pastor's or ministerial staff office without first checking in the office with the secretary.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

MEETINGS All groups or ministries holding meetings in the Church or the Christian Education Building must schedule such meetings "24" hours in advance through the Office Manager in the Church Office.  This is for security purposes.  Thank you for cooperating in this matter.

CELL PHONES IN THE SANCTUARY All members and visitors are requested to turn off their cell phones (you may put them on vibrate mode), prior to entering the sanctuary for Worship Services.  This is one of the ways in which we show our reverence to GodWe thank you in advance for your cooperation.

HEALTH CONCERNSIf you are in need of assistance during Sunday Worship Service, a member of the Health Ministry is located in the rear of the sanctuary.

PSALMS CHRISTIAN BOOKSTOREThe Bookstore is open following morning Worship Service.  It is located at the end of the hall to your left when exiting the sanctuary.  Attention one and all:  Are you someone who is an avid reader?  Do you have retail experience?  If so, your services are needed in the Psalms Christian Bookstore.  Please stop by after morning services for more details!

ST. PAUL HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

PAUL RELIEF EFFORTSOn January 12th, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti.  St. Paul will take donations to help support the relief effort in Haiti; every Sunday by offering or stop in the Church Office any day during the week to drop off your donation.  All proceeds will go to the relief effort; 100% of the funds collected will go to the relief effort!  We are also opening up our Computer Lab every Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. and every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. so they can be used to search for information on the progess of Haiti and to make donations via the internet if you wish.

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP SERVICE
ImageIMPORTANT CHILDREN'S WORSHIP INFORMATION:  Children's Worship is available each Sunday (except 2nd/Youth Sunday).  This ministry enables our young children (PreK-4th Grade) to learn about and worship God.  If your child attends Children's Church/Worship Service, please remember that it is important that we check your child in and out.  Check-in occurs between 9:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and check-out is immediately after Church Service ends.  If your child attends Sunday Bible School, please let the teachers know if they will stay for Children's Worship, indicating any food allergies.  Over the next several Sundays we will provide registration forms so that we have up-to-date information about your child (Name, Age, Grade, Allergies, Parent/Guardian Contact Information, etc.)

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
ImageA CELEBRATION OF MIND, BODY, SOUL & SPIRIT, SPOTLIGHTS BLACK HISTORY MONTH ACTIVITIES AT ST. PAUL:  The public is invited to join members of SPBC, for an exciting schedul of theme-based events and programs, beginning on February 3rd and concluding February 28th.  The schedule of programs is designed to touch and connect participants in ways that enrich, inspire, and inform the community.

"Our emphasis upon wellness in mind, body, soul and spirit, in the new decade, helps foster a more universal approach to observe the legacy and contributions of African-Americans past, present and future.  We do so in order to create a sense that each of us or part of "living history" every day,"  Pastor Michael J. Cox stated, "I encourage the entire Community of Faith here in Montclair to be a part of these inspired programs and events," Pastor Cox continued.

A schedule of Black History Month events at SPBC includes:
 

  • Feb 3rd, 7:00 p.m. - Worship On Wednesday (W.O.W.), will initiate the month with spoken word by Rev. Ronald Bascombe.  This contemporary monthly service will embark upon a series that will focus on the who, what, how, when, where and why do we worship.
  • Feb 7th, 10:00 a.m. - Emphasis is upon Education (Mind).  The history and mission of the Link School of Newark will be highlighted.  LaToro Yates, Director of Admissions and SPBC member will make a short presentation (4-5 minutes including a short video of about 1 minute).  Mr. Yates' presentation will touch on how the social unrest in Newark in the 60's led to the founding of the Link Community School and the difference its students and alumni are making today.
  • Feb 14th, 10:00 a.m. - Emphasis is on Health (Body).  Cherrie Felisbret of Pfizer Pharmaceutical will duscuss the history, current statistics, and future goals for heart health and disparities in cardiovascular care for communities of color aided by a powerpoint presentation.  This presentation will also feature two videotaped interviews with seniors in the church, talking to two young people about their exercise routines and their point of views about health with respect to exercise.
  • February 14th is also "Go Red" Sunday, a celebration of Women's Heart Health.  Pins will be distributed to the congregation to promote greater awareness by the SPBC Health Ministry.
  • February 14th after Worship Service, the SPBC Health Ministry will host health screenings and a book signing by Lynn R. Parker author of  "What Did the Doctor Just Say."  Mountainside Hospital will be doing Cholesterol and Glucose ScreeningUMDNJ will be doing Dental Screening for children and Nurse, Ms. Parker will be reading her book on "Know How Your Medication Works."  SPBC Nurses will be doing Blood Screening and many more!
  • Feb 21st, 10:00 a.m. - Emphasis is Arts (Soul).  Sylvia Bryant, educator, noted dancer, artistic director and choreographer and author of "Dancing the Christian Calendar," will deliver an oral presentation on the history of dance as worship in the African American Christian tradition.  Her ensemble:  A Call to Worship will then deliver a selected dance performance.
  • Feb 28th, 10:00 a.m. - Emphasis is on our relationship with God (Spirit).  A Black History Month message will be delivered by guest minister, Reverand Terrance Porter, Pilgram Baptist Church, Red Bank NJ.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MINISTRY
ImageWOMEN'S MONDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDYThe Monday night "Women's Bible Study Group" is reading about "Women In The Bible" every Monday at 6:30 p.m.  The book for this series of discussions is available for purchase in the Psalms Christian Bookstore following Worship Services.  The book is not required.  Just bring your Bible and your enthusiasm for the Word and sisterhood.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN 2010Sign up in the Church Office for one of the following Bible Reading Programs.  Lamplights - Read the entire New Testament and the Psalms.  Footsteps - Read the entire Bible in one year.  Moments In Scripture - Read topical readings from throughout the Bible.  Great Bible Stories - Spend the year becoming familiar with some of the great stories about God's work and promises.  Or, Read On Your Own - Read whatever you desire.  Sign up and pick up your reading list in the Church Office.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDYOn Wednesdays, you will be challenged, engaged, and inspired by our study of the Bible on "The Words and Deeds of Jesus", taught by Pastor Michael J. Cox.  Also, we have a second study on the book of "Revelation", taught by Deacon Gabriel Slater, it is a great choice if you want to know more about the Jesus' return for us.  We have a third choice called "Being Baptist", taught by various SPBC Associate Ministers, this is great if you are new to St. Paul and/or the Baptist faith or just want to know more about what it means to be Baptsit.  Our study begins at 7:00 p.m.  No pre-registration is required.  Just bring your Bible and a friend.
