*** UPDATED 03/21/2010 ***Effective immediately, SPBC is seeking to recruit a Director of Music. This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and will be primarily responsible for directing the musical program of the church by selecting appropriate music, rehearsing and preparing the Mass Choir, Youth Choir and Praise band, as well as playing the organ & piano during the worship services.Qualified applicants should be familiar with a diverse range of church music and be able to collaborate with the Senior Pastor and ministerial staff in planning worship services. Principal Function: Prayerfully promote an atmosphere that is inspired by the Holy Spirit thereby facilitating the growth of the music ministry consistent with the vision of SPBC. Committed to develop and promote the educational and music program at the church in order to facilitate SPBC's vision and strategic objectives. Primary Duties:
- Direct the planning, coordinating, conducting and evaluating of a comprehensive music program.
- Assist the Pastor in planning services of worship; arrange and provide music for weddings, funerals, special projects, ministries and other Church related activities.
- Prayerfully select new music.
- Recruit and train choir members.
- Maintain a regular prayer schedule within the music ministry.
- Implement a regular rehearsal schedule that will facilitate choral performances on Sundays, special services and other events.
- Maintain music library materials, supplies, musical instruments and other equipment.
- Work with and coordinate efforts with the Audio/video ministry to create and maintain a comprehensive and quality product/performance.
- Prepare an annual budget.
- Institute long range planning process, goals and objectives for the music ministry consistent with the strategic mission of the church.
- Travel with the Pastor or designees upon request by the Pastor for special projects.
- Starting salary is 50K ($50,000) per year.
Requirements/Expectations:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in music.
- 5 years of church experience in directing vocal choirs of various ages and music genres.
- 5 years of church experience in arranging music and leading/conducting musicians.
- Able to read sheet music.
- Able to teach all vocal parts.
- Faithful disciple of Jesus Christ: prayer life; reads Bible; involved personally in ministry beyond music
- Able to work cooperatively with Pastor, staff and lay leaders.
- Starting Salary is 50K ($50,000) per year.
